Ahead of Potential India-Pakistan Conflict, Pakistan Asks China for Additional $1.4 Billion
Given the current tense situation between India and Pakistan, a major conflict appears to be "imminent." At this critical juncture, Pakistan has approached China with a new request. According to Russia's Sputnik news agency, Pakistan has asked China to increase their bilateral currency swap agreement by 10 billion yuan.
Previously, Pakistan had a 30 billion yuan currency swap agreement with China. This arrangement allows both countries to conduct cross-border transactions using their own currencies within this 30 billion yuan limit, eliminating the need for third-party currencies. Pakistan's request for an additional 10 billion yuan indicates two things: firstly, the growing trade volume between China and Pakistan, where the existing 30 billion yuan is no longer sufficient to meet current demands; and secondly, Pakistan's increasing reliance on China, essentially "betting its future" on Beijing.
Considering the current India-Pakistan situation, if war breaks out, Pakistan needs a reliable ally. Given India's relationships with the United States, Russia, and even the Middle East, Pakistan has few truly dependable nations to turn to, and China is undoubtedly the most significant among them. In this context, Pakistan's request can almost be seen as a "letter of appeal" for support and a "warning" to India.
